“From one side to the other” and “Ivangorod Report March 3rd 2022” are meant to be a pair from the beginning. The first work is a video loop where I cross two different borders: one is Estonian-Russian crossing point 1 and the other one is Russian-Estonian crossing point 2. The second work is a report of my day in Ivangorod, a small Russian town located just opposite of Narva, Estonia. I went there with a plan to ask everyone I met there whether they wanted to be on the other side. To gain permission to record the answer on a dictaphone was quite challenging because people were more careful with the answers, and the fear of saying something wrong was noticeable. There was no point in bringing a camera in front of these people. However, what I liked about the question was that anyone could answer it any way they wanted. I did not want to collect only political views or only literal directional interpretations of the questions.
